Rajyotsava celebrations across K'taka

Hubballi: The Rajyotsava Celebrations marking 65th Year of the formation of Karnataka were held in simple ceremonies in the Four North Karnataka districts of Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Gadag and Haveri with the respective District-in-charge Ministers, Mr.Jagadish Shettar (Dharwad), Mr. Shivaram Hebbar (Karwar), Mr. C.C. Patil (Gadag) and Mr. Basavaraj Bommai (Haveri) respectively Hoisting the National Flags in the Headquarters of their respective districts today.


On this day in 1956, Reorganisation took place by carving out the States on the basis of the languages (Linguistic) Spoken. The unified Karnataka State became a reality with the merger of kannada speaking areas of the then Andhra Karnataka, Hyderabad Karnataka and Mumbai Karnataka into the then Princely State of Mysore.


While speaking on the occasion, All the above leaders paid rich tributes to all the Stalwarts who fought for the Unification of the State.


Karnatka State Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, speaking on the occasion in Haveri claimed that according to Language Experts, Kannada is the oldest language in South India.

Stating that Kannada is a rich language, he drew the attention to the fact that so far Eight Poets from Karnataka including Dr. V.K. Gokak from Haveri, Dr. D.R. Bendre from Dharwad and Dr. K.V. Puttappa (Kuvempu) from Shivamogga Districts have won the coveted Jnanapeeth Award for their works in Kannada language.
