Udupi: Damage to houses, flooding of low-lying areas and uprooting of trees were reported in different parts of the Udupi district in the past few days.
Following heavy rain, 13 houses in Kundapura, five in Udupi taluk, seven in Brahmavar, two each in Kaup and Byndoor taluks were damaged in the past 24 hours.
Paddy crops were damaged in Hebri. Two people suffered injuries after a tree crashed on them.
Rain water entered many houses in Upladi, Betlakki and Bannadi in the Kota area.
Seetha river and Madisalu stream were flowing above the danger level. Farmlands were inundated with the Vakwadi stream flowing in spate.
Sea erosion had intensified in Koteshwara, Beejadi, Gopadi, Koravadi and Maravanthe in Kundapura and Byndoor.
A restaurant and a few huts faced a threat from sea erosion on the Hale Alive coast.
The boulders were washed away due to the strong waves. A few coconut trees and roads had already been damaged in Maravanthe.
Cowsheds were damaged in Kulanje, Amparu, Korgi, Siddapura, Hemmadi, Gangolli and Tekatte.
In the past 24 hours, Udupi taluk recorded 79.4 mm of rain, with Brahmavar receiving 96.3 mm, Kaup 64.1 mm, Kundapura 96.6 mm, Byndoor 109.2 mm, Karkala 72.6 mm and Hebri 144.2 mm of rainfall.
As many as 25 electricity poles in Udupi, 15 in Kundapura and five in the Karkala sub-division had been damaged. From July 1, Mescom had incurred a loss of Rs 59.41 lakh.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday.
