
Bhatkal: All primary and high schools, as well as Anganwadi centres in Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, and Karwar, have been closed today, Thursday, in view of continuous and heavy rainfall forecasted across Uttara Kannada district.
According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s office and shared with media representatives by Bhatkal Tahsildar Nagendra Kulashetty, the district administration has declared a one-day holiday for these five coastal taluks as a precautionary measure.
The decision was made under Section 34(M) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, prioritizing the safety of children due to the risk of heavy rain and possible accidents.
The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner and President of the District Disaster Management Authority, also instructs the Women and Child Development Department and the Department of Public Education to ensure strict implementation. The notification further states that academic hours lost due to the holiday will be compensated in the coming days.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Udupi district, the administration has also declared a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres due to the heavy rain alert.
