Bhatkal:  A dominant sub-sect of Veerashaiva Lingayats may have upped its ante for the reservation under 2A Category, but the smaller and marginalised communities in the said category are wary of change to 2A Category.

The Hindulida Vargagala 2A Hitarakshana Vedike on Monday held a convention here, demanding the state government not to alter the 2A Category.

"The backward classes are facing existential threat. The government has no power to give quota according to its whims and fancies.

Quota cannot be distributed like peanuts. We will stonewall the state government's recommendation, if they make one, for the inclusion of the Lingayat sub-sect in question under the 2A Category," said Ujire Shrirama Kshetra seer Brahmananda Saraswati Swami, while speaking at the convention.
