Mangaluru: A 26-year old woman committed suicide by jumping into the pond along with her two-year old toddler at Puttur near Mangaluru on July 9.

The deceased has been identified as Vedavathi and her two year old son Manish.

As per the sources, Vedavathi was married to Satish Poojary since three years. On Saturday night, all the family members were watching television at home when Satish, Vedavathi and Manish went to the bathroom located outside. Satish returned after his bath. When Vedavathi and Manish did not return back, the family members and neighbours started searching.

After a while, they found Vedavathi’s mobile phone near a stream. They searched for mother and child everywhere nearby and then found the dead bodies in a pond. Fire brigade arrived to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the pond.

The reason for this extreme step is not known yet. A case was registered at Puttur rural police station and Mahesh Prasad, the inspector from Puttur town police station is investigating the case.
