Puttur: An incident of falling of LPG tanker took place near here at Kadambu in Perne, NH 75 on Monday, when the driver lost control over the vehicle. The sources have confirmed that there was no leakage of gas from the tanker.
The driver of the tanker is said to have injured who is identified as Alagiri Swamy (30) from Tamil Nadu. He was admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru. Whereas, the cleaner of the tanker Veru, escaped unhurt. Fortunately, a major tragedy was averted as there was no leakage of gas from the tanker.
The incident brought back horrific memories of the fateful accident which took place in 2013 here in which about ten lives were lost and many were injured in this village. The fear gripped the people of area immediately after the news of tanker accident once again, but to the relief of people no major casualties were reported except the injury of driver.
Local MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Bhushan G Borase, additional superintendent of police, Vedamurty, and Bantwal tahsildar, Purandar Hegde, visited the spot. Later, the trolley portion of the tanker was separated and the tanker was lifted with crane and shifted to another engine with noticeable efforts.
The Uppinangady police and police from Bantwal and town traffic stations, fire personnel, LPG emergency response vehicle and technicians worked together to handle the emergency. In a heartwarming gesture, a local helped the firemen by providing them facility to draw water from the pond which was owned by him.
