Udupi:  Containing drug menace and checking derogatory posts on social media are a challenge for the Police department. A healthy society can be built with public cooperation, said Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan.

Speaking at an Open House programme at Madhava Kripa School at Manipal, he cautioned the students to be careful while using mobile phones. Derogatory posts should not be forwarded. Posts with a message to society should be encouraged, he
said. Minors riding bikes and driving cars result into accidents. One should drive vehicles only after getting the driving license, he
said.

Vishnuvardhan called upon the parents to create awareness on traffic regulations among children. Following traffic rules will help reduce accidents. There has been an increase in substance abuse by college students. Students should shun drugs and focus on their future. If they have any information on sale of drugs they should inform the police, he said.

Beat system has been introduced to make policing people-friendly. Under the beat system, the beat police will visit houses and listen to the woes of the people.

Madhava Kripa School Principal Jessy Andrews and others were present.
