Karwar: Polling for Bhatkal Town Municipal Council (TMC), and Honnavar and Siddapur Town Panchayats (TPs) elections was held peacefully in the district on Wednesday.
Honnavar recorded 68% of voters turnout, while it was 50.74% in Bhatkal, and 73.94% voting recorded in Alnavar.
Among 17 wards in Honnavar, the member from one of the wards was elected unopposed. For the remaining 19 wards, polling was held. Ward number three recorded the highest turnout of 83.29% and Ward number 18 recorded 53.8%, which is least among all other wards, Tahsildar Manjula Bhajantri.
The counting of votes would be held on May 31 at New English School.
Among the 23 wards under the limits of Bhatkal Town Municipal Council, 12 candidates were selected unanimously. Polling was held for remaining 11 wards.
The polling officials facilitated the voters by setting up supportive polling booths at ward number 10, where the highest number of voters cast their votes. There were 11,226 voters in 11 polling booths, of which 5,696 voters exercised their franchise. Ward number 23 recorded the highest voter turnout of 68.13% and with 29.10% voting, ward number 18 recorded least turnout.
A total of 27 candidates were in the fray. Polling was held peacefully without any errors in all the polling booths, said Polling Officer N B Patil.
Polling was held for 15 wards in the Siddapur town panchayat limit. A total of 8,118 voters, including 3,959
women and 4,159 men cast their votes.
The newly-wed Akshata and Annappa Naik of Hosur exercised their franchise at ward number 12, immediately after entering the wedlock at Bankeshwar temple in the town.
