Police make one more arrest in case of seizure of banned notes

Karwar: Chittakula police arrested Vani Prabhu of Mundagod in connection with transportation of banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations worth Rs 1.30 crore in Karwar taluk recently.

On Saturday, Chittakula police had found banned notes worth Rs 1,30,40,000 while checking a state transport corporation bus at Majali check post near Goa-Karnataka border in Karwar taluk

Three women Jayashree Gouli, Bhavani Ramesh Naik and Meenakshi Naik, who were allegedly transporting the notes from Madgaon in Goa to Mundagod, were already arrested.

They had gone to Madgaon to bring the notes. During investigation, the police learnt about the involvement of Vani Prabhu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Rao told reporters that during interrogation, the arrested women spilled the beans on who had sent them to bring the notes.

As per their statement, the police arrested Vani in Mundagod on Sunday. It is not yet known to whom the money actually belonged. Sources said Vani was into the business of converting banned notes into new ones. There are also rumours that the seized notes belong to some politicians and businessmen.
