Bhatkal: People in coastal Karnataka, along with Bhatkal are in fret and sweat suffering from the extreme heat of summer for the last two to three days. Today on Tuesday, 37°C was recorded in Bhatkal, but due to high humidity, the intensity of heat was even higher than 41°C. It seems as if the skies in Coastal Karnataka have been overcast for the last two or three days, but there has been no enough rain to get rid of this heat.
According to the Meteorological Department, there are possibilities of heavy rains over the south regions of Karnataka along with coastal Karnataka for the next three days from May 26 as a result of storm surging in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
'Yellow Alert' has also been declared in the regions of Chikkamagaluru and Hassan on Tuesday in view of the possibility of heavy rains. Similarly, 'Orange Alert' has been declared on May 28 in Tumkuru, Mysuru, Ramnagar and Chamarajanagar.
Dr Srinivas Reddy, Director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, said that the monsoon would start in the first week of June this year. On Monday, 5cm rainfall recorded in Mandya district's Hanokere and Barsali. 3cm in Bangalore City, KR Pet, Hassan, Mandya, and Mysuru, and 1cm rainfall in T Narsipur, Sarguro and Periyapattan. Rains in Mysuru also caused uprooting of trees in about eight places, blocking access to roads.
The temperature in Kalburgi is intense which recorded 44°C.
