Kumta: A pedestrian was killed on the spot after a speeding gas tanker knocked him while he was crossing the road opposite to Sanman hotel on NH-66 in Kumta on Friday night. The tanker fled the scene following the incident, after which the locals chased it and managed to hand over the driver to the police.

Sources said that the incident happened when the pedestrian was crossing the road while the tanker was heading towards Mangaluru from Ankola. The identification of the deceased victim was not traced, but the locals said that he was mentally unstable and was roaming in the streets since few months.
