Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) officials conducted raid and sealed over 50 shops for failing to pay outstanding stallage fees here on Thursday.
HDMC Assistant Commissioner Santosh Anishettar, who led the drive, said that notices have been issued to 389 shops directing them to pay stallage fees soon.
The 50 shops, which were locked on Thursday, had an outstanding amount of Rs. 50 lakh, he said.
HDMC Commissioner Siddalingayya Hiremath on Thursday directed raiding the shop-keepers who have huge outstanding amount in the form of stallage fee. About 15 days ago, the HDMC directed 489 shop-keepers to pay their outstanding amount and get their licences renewed. However, only 100 shop-keepers had come forward to pay the stallage fee.
