Mangaluru: A new intercity express train will be pressed into service from 26th March, which will travel between Hassan and Bengaluru, while Kudla express will run between Mangalore and Bengaluru on thrice a week.
According to sources, the passengers travelling from Bengaluru to Hassan and vice versa are bound to save travel time by 3-4 hours of the journey.
The train will also travel further into the Mangalore city from Hassan. Arrangements are being made to run this train by Sunday by the officials of southwest railway division.
Union railway minister, Suresh Prabhu will flag off the train on 26th March. This intercity express will start at Hassan at 6.15 am and reach Yashwantpur at 9 am. On its return journey, it will leave Bengaluru at 6.15 pm and reach Hassan at 9 pm.
It is said that for convenience of the passengers, the officials also plan to make the train that moves between Yashwantpur and Mangalore to run via Mysuru to Hassan to run directly without touching Mysuru.
According to sources, Kudla Express will run between Yashwantpur and Mangalore on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The train starts from Yashwantpur at 7 am and reach Hassan at 9.45 am. It will reach Mangalore at 4 pm. The train, on its return journeys on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, leaves Mangalore at 10.50 am and reach Yashwantpur at 7.50 pm.
