Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V has said that new guidelines relating to religious and cultural programmes in the district would be announced after consultations with DK District in-charge Minister in the wake of a spike in Covid cases in the district.
speaking after launching the first round of Covid vaccination drive for journalists above 45 years having BP and diabetes. The DC himself received the second dose of Covid vaccine at Wenlock Hospital on Tuesday.
Stating that there was a need for disciplinary action and imposing of penalty on those violating Covid guidelines, he said there was also a need to put a check on unnecessary travel in border areas except students and those travelling to their place of work.
He said in MCC limits the services of Home Guards would be utilised to make people follow Covid guidelines on the lines of the Marshalls introduced by BBMP.
The DC said steps would be taken to vaccinate priests and staff of temples affiliated to the Endowment Department. He said these people can directly visit the vaccination centres.
In case of old age or shelter homes where there are over 30 people above the age of 60, then arrangements would be made to take them to vaccination centres by KSRTC buses, he informed.
The DC said Covid tests have been increased in colleges and hostels resulting in an increase in Covid cases. Of those who have been tested positive except a couple of cases most are asymptomatic or less symptomatic, he said. At the same time he said the public must exercise caution. There may be a need to restrict the number of people in functions in the days to come, the Deputy Commissioner hinted.
A Udupi report said Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has directed officials to strictly implement the Covid guidelines as instructed by the government to prevent a Covid second wave.
Addressing a meeting of officials to discuss ways and means to check a Covid second wave, he said officials have already been asked to levy fines on those failing to wear masks in public places. He also warned of action against officials who fail to impose fine. He further stated that a nodal officer would be appointed to oversee the functioning of officials entrusted with Covid related duty.
Those not wearing masks at functions and meetings and in case the number of participants exceeds the prescribed limit fine will be imposed, the DC said.
