Mangaluru: The Muslim Central Committee (MCC) handed over cheques for Rs 30 lakh each to the families of Masood at Bellare and Fazil at Mangalapete near Surathkal on Thursday.
MCC president K S Mohammed Masood, handing over the cheque to Fazil’s father, Ummar Farooq, at his house at Mangalapete, said they were disappointed after their expectations that the government would extend a helping hand to Fazil’s family, fell flat.
“The government’s money is public money. While spending public money, it is wrong to discriminate,” he stressed and added that MCC had decided to raise money for the families of Masood and Fazil.
Krishnapura Kendra Juma Masjid Kathib Farooq Sakafi said the elected representatives, let alone help, did not even bother to visit the families.
“The grief of losing children stepping into adulthood is above caste and creed bias. Therefore, shed your biases and punish those who murdered the innocents and also those who had supported these murderers,” he stressed.
Leaders B M Mumtaz Ali and former mayor Ashraff were present.
‘Willing to help Praveen’s family too’
Krishnapura Kendra Juma Masjid Kathib Farooq Sakafi said if the family members of slain BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru permit, the Muslim Central Committee members are willing to travel to Bellare and extend help to them. “Such incidents should not repeat in the district. Everyone should coexist peacefully and live in harmony,” he stressed.
