Puttur: A woman who was mother of a bride died of cardiac arrest during the last rituals of her daughters marriage ceremony on 20th April, Thursday.
This tragic incident happened at Uppinangady to Varija (40 yrs) who took part with enthusiasm in the rituals but then had a cardiac arrest during the last ritual of the function.
Varija, wife of Taniyappa was from Ekkalike in Piligoodu Ajira near Uppinangady and was able to witness her daughters marriage before surrendering to a heart attack.
Her daughters wedding was held at Sri Guru Raghavendra Math hall at Nekkilady with a youth from Kanchinadka in Mogru village on Thursday.
During the final ritual of handing over the bride to the groom, Varija experienced a searing pain in her chest and fell to the ground.
Though she was rushed to the nearest private hospital at Uppinangady, her life couldn’t be saved. It came to light that she had gone through a surgery due to heart related problems in the past and was due to attend another one but was unable to because of financial problem.
Her husband works as a cooly along with a son who left school midway to help the family. The couple has another son and a daughter who marriage was in due course when Varija left for heavenly abode in the dying moments of the function.
