Karwar: Police arrested six ‘suspected terrorists’ who had hatched a plot to blow up Kali bridge, bus stand and Kaiga nuclear power plant and seized seven bombs from them on Friday.
The suspected terrorists were actually security staff in civil dress. This drill was held as part of coastal mock security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ to improve security in coastal area. Various security agencies jointly hold such mock drills twice a year.
“As part of the exercise, security personnel were deputed all over the coast. Temporary check-post was set up on NH-66 and vehicles were check. Coast Guard and Coastal Security Force police are patrolling. Security was tightened at the DC office, commercial port, Kaiga power station, dams, murdeshwar, gokarna and other important tourist places and fishing ports”, said DySP KT Pramodrao.’
Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Force and civil police of Uttara Kannada district were part of the exercise.
Two groups-Red Force and Blue Force were formed. Navy personnel (Red Force) in disguise tried to ‘plant’ bomb(artificial) in selected places and police (Blue Force) tried to detect it. In case, the police fails in the exercise, it means that more attention is needed to provide better security.
