Karwar: The road connecting the National Highway to Mirjan-Katgaal in Kumta taluk has been temporarily closed following signs of an imminent landslide near Khaire. Authorities reported that the hillside near the road has begun to erode in phases, raising fears that the entire slope, along with the road, may collapse.
As the road experiences continuous vehicular movement, officials fear that any landslide could lead to serious casualties. In light of public safety and to prevent any untoward incidents, precautionary measures have been taken.
Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya has ordered the temporary suspension of traffic on the stretch from the National Highway to Khaire on the Mirjan-Katgaal route.
As an alternative, travelers heading towards Katgaal are advised to use the Katgaal-Divgi-Mirjan route, while those coming from Mirjan should reroute via Mirjan-Divgi-Katgaal.
