Mangaluru: A committee has been formed to inspect as well as review the developmental works in ports, said State Minister for Ports and Inland Transport H C Mahadevappa. Speaking to reporters after visiting the old port here on March 7, Tuesday that the developmental works initiated under the ADB project, while the first phase of developmental works would be completed this year, the second phase works is likely to be completed by the year 2020.
He further stated that apart from promoting the fishing industry, tourism development and employment generation through upgradation of ports is the objective of the government.
Regretting that not enough funds had been sanctioned for the development of the port over the past decade, the Minister stated that a proposal for sanction of Rs 600 crores has been submitted of late. He also informed discussed with officials on various aspects pertaining to port development.
J R Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South and U T Khader, Food and Civil Supplies Minister were also present.
