Karwar: Uttara Kannada District incharge Minister R V Deshpande has helped his ‘corrupt’ followers, including an MLC, to encroach government land in Haliyal constituency, alleged BJP leader and former MLA Sunil Hegde.

He said Haliyal constituency has not seen any development in the last four years. “Many people are not getting government facilities and the Congress leaders have been grabbing government land,” he alleged.

Addressing the media person here on Wednesday, Hegde, who will contest on a BJP ticket from Haliyal constituency in 2018 assembly elections, alleged Deshpande was elected several times and became minister many times. But he has not brought any industry to the district and not taken any action to create employment. “He always asserts about development, but there is no development in Haliyal constituency, except roads. With the support Deshpande, MLC S L Ghotnekar and his son have been encroaching government land.

Recently to encroach 6-ft land and construct a complex, they damaged the compound of NWKRTC bus station in Haliyal town. When the bus depot officials went to the police station to register a complaint, due to political pressure by Deshpande, the police registered complaint next day,” he said.

Ghotnekar encroached a government school ground to construct a temple, and now he encroached another piece of land to construct a house for the priest on the school ground. Likewise, many Congress leaders have involved in land encroachment and Deshpande has been supporting them, he alleged. “They are ‘Chor Guru, Chandal Shishya’.

They have been looting government land in every town and village. Even all government tenders have been given to only Ghotnekar’s company and not to other eligible contractors,” Hegde accused. He said the deputy commissioner and the government should look into these issues and take stern action against the land grabbers. “If the present government fails to do so, the BJP, which will form government after 2018 elections, will probe these issues and take action against the culprits,” he added.
