Mangaluru: The battery-operated buggies have been a centre of attraction among children at Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, on the outskirts of the city with the uniqueness of the buggies is that it is driven by women.

Spread over 370 acres of land, the Nisarga Dhama has a botanical garden, regional science centre, Guthina Mane, Aquarium, Artisans village, heritage village and others.

To help the visitors to visit these places, the buggies were introduced.

There are 20-battery operated buggies in the Nisarga Dhama. Six are inside the zoo. Others are placed at the ticket counter, to help the visitors to visit various destinations. More than 15 buggies are driven by women, said Biological Park Director H Jayaprakash Bhandary.

Women are known for patience. We have several women and children who visit Pilikula. They need to be taken care of. Women discharge their duties effectively. They drive the buggies too with care. Hence, we have given priority to women,” he added.
