Mangaluru: P Harishekaran, a 1996 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the Inspector-General of Police (Western Range).
He replaced J. Arun Chakravarthy who had been posted as the Inspector- General of Police (Internal Security), Bengaluru.
A native of Tamil Nadu, Harishekaran was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2013. He is a postgraduate in Arts and knows Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. He has worked in different positions and was recently the Additional Commissioner of Police (East), Bengaluru city. He will be the 12th IGP of the range (Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru) district police units.
Mr. Harishekaran is among the many officers transferred by the State Government on Saturday. Among the other IPS officers who have been transferred are Uttara Kannada SP Omshi Krishna, who has been transferred as Superintendent of police in Haveri. Yadgir Superintendent of Police Patil Vinayak Vasantrao has been transferred to Uttara Kannada.
