Mangalore: United Muslim Front (UMF) has planned to take 'justice for Qureshi' campaign further by holding a Mangalore chalo program on May 2 at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore.

K Ashraf, the former Mangalore Mayor, who is also convenor of the UMF, addressing the media said that, the Mangaluru city police officers are telling a series of lies in connection with the alleged illegal confinement and third degree torture of Ahmed Qureshi.

"Opposing the recent torture and assault of Ahmed Qureshi, by a police personnel, several muslim organizations have come forward in demand with justice for Ahmed since 4th April. But sadly, no demands from the higher officials were fulfilled", stated Ashraf.

He also said "there are around four lakh muslim voters in the district. The muslim ministers, who have acquired the authority by using these peoples votes are least bothered about the problems faced by the  community. Recently there was a suspension of three police officers in a similar incident that happened in Udupi and Konaje. But, the police personnel who led a lathi charge on the protestors who urged for justice of Ahmed were not suspended. Even after Chief Minister Siddaramiah had ensured for help in this matter, the district administration haven't responded to us in the expected way."

Talking about 'Mangalore Chalo' he expected that more than 25,000 people representing over 60 organizations will join the protest.

Co-conveyor of UMF, Mustafa Kempi said "There are some self-proclaiming secular leaders in Dakshina Kannada district. It is very necessary to alert people about these leaders. The promise made by a leader before elections, regarding the arrest of Prabhakara Bhat is yet to be seen. The same person, Prabhakara Bhat had later delivered a controversial speech during the period of Sadananda Gouda led BJP government. A case was also registered at the police station".

Sunni Yuwajana Sangha (SYS) state leader Ashraf Kinar, Dakshina Kannada district youth congress general secretary Suhail Kandak, PFI Dakshina Kannada president Nawaz Ullal, UNICEF Karnataka state president Rafiuddin Kundroli, Dr. Ameer Tumbe, Muslim central committee member CM Mustafa, Mohiddin Mounu, Muhammad Nishad were present.
