MANGALURU: Timely presence of fire tenders, Quick Response Team and BPCL officials averted a major mishap after a bullet tanker carrying LPG toppled on Mangaluru — Bengaluru national highway near Neerakatte in Uppinangadi police station limits on Tuesday.
Ryshanth C B, assistant superintendent of police, said the tanker travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru toppled as its driver tried to avoid a head-on collision.
The driver received minor injuries and is being treated at a private hospital. The incident occurred at around 6.45am.
Soon after the incident, gas from the tanker started leaking, and QRT and fire tenders were called to plug the leakage. Police officers said traffic was diverted to to Subramanya Cross and Gundya, and power supply to all the houses in the vicinity were cut. LPG from the vehicle was transferred to another vehicle and by around 6pm, the highway was opened for traffic movement.
