Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition and Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday urged the minister to withdraw from the government's implementation of the new National Education Policy.
A letter has been written from the Office of the Minister of Higher Education informing the implementation of the new National Education Policy and Requesting Appointment of the Leader of the Opposition.
It has been noted that the government has already decided and implemented a policy that will allow students, teachers, education experts or opposition with no discussion of the current academic year. It is not correct to call for discussion after the inauguration of the implementation.
Education and health are no small issue in policy change. The wide range of implications for drafting prior to democratically initiating the proposed deliberations. Governments take many developed countries to the full responsibility of health and education but here in India the government is trying to wash away the responsibility, he said.
Stating that ,"India has a high student-to-teacher ratio which should come down to the benefit of students. Also. The percentage of GDP is very low as is education for the government. The NEP also recommends the allocation to education at 6% of GDP. So then Karnataka should allocate about 1.08 lakh Cr".
He also said," there are many objections and concerns about NEP and it violates federal arrangements & infringes upon the autonomy of states over education and universities. It promotes privatization leading to inequality and social injustice. The intent is to indoctrinate students with the idea of communalism through education. The NEP is unscientific and will push the lakhs of students to darkness."
Senior congress leader said the government should have discussed and debated these issues before the implementation. Many students shaping the future of NEP decides their next 70-80 years. There are many marginalized sections for the social elevation of education. Has marginalized sections of the social status of the BJP prevented the NEP?
If there is a debate about the good spirit in the NEP, I urge the government to withdraw the implementation of the NEP immediately and we will discuss that. If, after deliberations, NEP is found to be good, we will support the government. Otherwise, the government will have to take the responsibility of pushing the burden on the millions of people, he said.
