Abu Dhabi: The UAE private sector will get a six-day long Eid Al Fitr holiday, after the Cabinet announced a nine-day long holiday for the public sector earlier on Sunday.

According to a decision by the UAE Cabinet earlier this year, Eid holidays for the private sector will begin on Ramadan 29 (Monday, June 3) and end on Shawwal 3 (Friday, June 7, in case the holy month is 30-days long).

An official announcement by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation is awaited.

Earlier, according to a brief statement issued on Twitter, following the directives of The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Cabinet announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday for the public sector will start on Sunday, June 2, for one week, with work resuming on Sunday, June 9. The statement was later tweeted by the Dubai Media Office as well.

However, combined with May 31 (Friday) and June 1 (Saturday), the public sector will get altogether a 9-day long holiday.

The holy month of Ramadan is likely to have 30 days this time, with Ramadan 30 falling on Tuesday, June 4, subjecting to sighting of the moon.

Earlier this year, the UAE Cabinet had announced that both public and private sectors will have the same number of official holidays.
