Karwar: The district administration has framed a scheme to provide protection to people in danger on the beaches of the district.
Surf Life Saving, a SHG is providing training to 68 youths on Ravindranath Tagore beach here in this regard.
The training will be held for 10 days. After the training is complete, candidates will be given certificates and appointed as lifeguards at beaches in the district, the district administration has decided.
DC S S Nakul visited the training programme on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, he said, it has been decided to appoint lifeguards at various beaches of the district including Karwar, Murdeshwar, Gokarna and Om Beach, which are the popular tourist spots. For this, training will be provided and eligible candidates will be appointed.
The certificate provided after the training programme will be valid in both government and private tourist spots. The certificate can also be helpful in availing jobs in other states, he said.
Additional DC H Prasanna said, it is the first time that such a training has been organized. The trained lifeguards can help people in danger on beaches.
