Karwar: A French national, who was drowning in sea, was rescued by lifeguards at Kudle beach near Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district onWednesday.

The 22-year-old woman, Debou Marion, had come to India with her friends to visit tourist places here.

They were in Gokarna in the past three days and on Wednesday, they visited Kudle beach. Due to big waves, Debou, who ventured into sea, started drowning and shouted for help.

Lifeguard Mahesh Harikantra rushed to the sea and successfully rescued her.

After introducing lifeguards, Pravasi Mitras, at main beaches of Uttara Kannada district, drowning cases have come down.
