Bhatkal: A leopard died in Bhatkal af ter it came in contact with a live transmission line while climbing a tree.

The incident occurred at Masheri village of Belke section of the reserved forest in Bhatkal of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday.

According to the Forest de partment, its tail came in con tact with a loosely dangling 11KV transmission line. "The two-year-old juvenile died on the spot, Ganapathi Naik, DCF Honnavat taluk told.

Ganapathi visited and in spected the spot to rule out poaching. Though there was no external injury or any thing suspicion about the death, he had postmortem performed on the carcass be fore disposing it. Further in vestigation is on.
