Police crack Kundapur temple devotees’ gold theft case; Ten arrested

Kundapur: Kundapur Police detained ten persons in connection with the theft of gold jewellery items of a tourist in Anegudde temple, Kundapur on Saturday and recovered 303 grams of gold, Rs 7000 cash and a Toofan vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Raghavendra (24), Ravi (32), Raju (35), Netra (27), Lakkavva (50), Ghouse Mohiuddin (35), Sharada (30), Dakshayani (24), Gangavva (40) and Shruthi (26). All residents of Savnoor and Gadag.

According to sources,  a lady named Joythi from Bengaluru visited Shri Vinayaka Temple Anegudde to offer Puja during which  a group of four women  unzipped her bag when she was receiving Prasad after the pooja, and escaped with  80 grams of jewellery. The stolen jewellery included a bangle, necklace and two gold chains

Jyothi immediately approached the Kundapur police station and filed the complaint.

The Kundapur Police rushed to the temple and watched the footage of CCTV camera of the temple and traced the registration number of the vehicle in which the women had come.

Meanwhile, a person of the area had noted the thief’s vehicle number who informed to the Kundapur Police. The police immediately started to trace the vehicle and succeeded in arresting the accused on Saturday at Moodigere of Chikkamagaluru district.

Under the direction of Udupi SP K T Balakrishna and ASP Vishnuvaradhan, DySP Kundapur Praveen Naik, CPI Manjappa D R, PSI Nasir Hussain, Crime PSI Devaraj, PC’s Raghavendra, Joythi, Nagendra, Sachin Shetty, Santhosh Shridhar and others took part in the operation.
