Kumta: A speeding bike suddenly hit people waiting for a bus at Gangawali in Gokarna of Kumta taluka, injuring five people. The accident took place on Friday evening.
The injured were reportedly waiting for a bus to take their children to a doctor for treatment when suddenly a speeding bike, whose rider was talking on a mobile phone, collided with them. All five were injured.
People at the spot immediately rushed all the injured in separate vehicles to Gokarna Hospital, where they were then shifted to Karwar Civil Hospital. The leg bone of a child named Uday Naik (10) has been fractured. The head of a girl named Ranjita Shekhar Naik (14) has been injured, her mother Praveena Shekhar Naik (45) is reported to have fractured her thigh bone. One-year-old Praneeti Suresh Naik has a head injury. After treatment at Karwar Hospital, the five have been shifted to Bamboli Hospital in Goa for neurosurgery on the recommendation of doctors.
The biker has been identified as Raghuvendra Vithal Gowda, a resident of Hanehalli, who is also undergoing treatment for a severe head injury.
Police have registered a case in this regard.
