Kumta: Gruel center opened in undated Urakeri

Kumta: Due to heavy rains lashing in Kumta, Honnavar from last two days, flood-like situation prevailed in Badagani tank and hence to rehabilitate the locals, a gruel center has been opened on Wednesday, stated tahsildar CK Naik.

As the rain water has gushed into 10 houses, 29 people have been rendered displaced. They have been shifted to Majare School and a gruel center is opened here. However, no reports on damage to property and loss of lives have been reported.

The Kalbagh and Aghanashini areas have been marooned and the roads including the National highway has been submerged posing tough challenge for the vehicle users to ply over. Efforts are on to drain the water, he added.

Following gusty winds, trees and electric poles in some areas have been uprooted, the rain water has entered into the agriculture fields, he noted.

Three houses damaged

Three houses in Kumta have been partially damaged and more than 20 electric poles have been uprooted. The main line which supplies power to Gokarna from Kumta too has been cut and there is no power supply from last 24 hours.

Kumta has received 196.6 mm rainfall on Wednesday and so far, Kumta has received 1526.4 mm rain. Last year, Kumta had received 791 mm rainfall till June end.
