Karwar: Indian Navy Day was celebrated at INS Kadamba Naval Base in Karwar on Sunday.
Governor Thawarchand Gehlot participated in the programme.
Before sunset, the navy band played various patriotic songs on their instruments enthralling the audience.
Through their beating retreat, the band commemorated the sacrifice, valour, achievements and capability of the country’s navy.
Navy ships illuminated
As part of the celebrations, INS Suvarna, INS Tillanchang and INS Koswari were illuminated.
The firework that adorned the sky above the ship were colourful and offered a visual treat.
Operation Trident
Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 each year to mark the Indian Navy’s achievements in ‘Operation Trident’ during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Operation Trident was an offensive operation launched by the Indian Navy on Pakistan’s port city of Karachi
Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area (FOK) Rear Admiral Atul Anand, Karnataka Naval Area Navy Wives’ Association President Gulrukh Anand, MLA Roopali Naik, Deputy Commissioner Prabhuling Kavalikatti, Rear Admiral D K Goswami and others witnessed the event.
