Karwar: “Mega Lok Adalat will be organised on June 25 in various courts in the district to dispose of cases through mutual consent,” informed District Principal & Sessions Court Judge D S Vijay Kumar who is also the president of District Legal Services Authority.

Speaking at a press meet here on Friday, Vijay Kumar said that as many as 4,933 cases have been identified for disposal in the Lok Adalat.

This includes 874 cheque bounce cases, 82 bank fraud and related cases, 197 cases that can be settled through mutual understanding, 159 motor vehicle accident cases, 18 marital and alimony-related cases and 14 cases related to the mines & geology department and 1,736 civil cases.

He said that all cases including those in the pre-litigation stage, except criminal cases, can be settled at the Lok Adalat. But there is no provision to go for appeal in the cases disposed of in the Adalat.

“As per the directions of the State Legal Services Authority, Revenue Adalat will also be held along with the Lok Adalat,” Vijay Kumar informed.

Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority member secretary Kant Kurani was present.
