Karwar: The exercise of District and Taluk Legal Services Authority of solving the cases through Lok Adalat met with success in Karwar on Saturday. As many as 619 cases of various nature which were pending at the several courts were disposed off at the National Lok Adalat.

A total of 24 benches were set up across the courts in the district. 1,979 pending cases and 34 pre-litigation cases were identified for the Lok Adalat. Of them, 13 pre-litigation cases and 606 pending cases were resolved through mediation.

Senior civil judge T Govindayya said thatsides minimizing the burden on the regular courts. Lok Adalats also help resolve animosity between the litigants and promote harmony in society. 190 of the 750 cheque bounce cases, 29 Motor vehicle Act cases, seven matrimonial dispute cases, 111 civil cases and 181 criminal cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat.
