Karwar: Youths exhorted to donate blood regularly

Karwar: “It is always better to be aware of one’s pure blood group as it comes to our rescue in times of emergency,” said fishermen leader PM Tandel.

He was inaugurating a free camp organized to check the blood group of students, at Somnath ITI College, at Binaga.

The camp was jointly organized by Azad Youth Club, Aditya Birla Chemicals, Lions Club and District Health and Family Welfare Department to mark World Blood Donors’ Day.

Tandel said, “Blood transfusion becomes important and necessary during surgeries and other medical emergencies. If a person is aware of his or her blood group, blood transfusion can be done immediately and his life can be saved.”

He also called upon youths to donate blood regularly to maintain a healthy mind and body.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer GN Ashok Kumar said that there are many benefits of donating blood. Blood donation helps in improving our health by rejuvenating our body.

Blood group of as many as 160 students was checked at the camp.

Chaya Durgekar and Ashwini of the blood bank conducted the camp.
