KARWAR: "The ban on plastic is already in force in the district, and strict action would be taken if anybody is found selling plastic after August 15", said Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul on the implementation of plastic ban, on Thursday.
Addressing of different departments, he said government has banned plastic bags, posters, flex, garland, flag, spoon, plate and sheets as they damage environment.
Use of plastic materials should be stopped in government offices. Plastic carry bags and plastic materials being used in day-to-day life should be banned in the first phase.
Create awareness
To hold awareness programme, committee headed by tahsildar would be constituted in each taluk, while urban local body officer would be the secretary of this committee.
To create awareness about plastic ban, programmes would be conducted in rural and urban areas in the district for next one month. It will be organised in association with schools, colleges and voluntary organisation, while focus should be creating awareness among students also."Action would be taken against those vendors who neglect or do not follow plastic ban", he warned.
However, Plastic materials meant for export, packaging plastic, nursery bags and sheets and plastic for packing milk and milk products are exempted from the ban, he added.
