Karwar: A compensation cheque was given to the family members of the fishermen who drowned in the sea while fishing, by MLA Satish Sail.

Recently, Narayan Beerappa Harikantra and Santosh Thimappa Ambiga of Baithkol had drowned while fishing in the sea, apparently in two separate boats.

Affected families

A compensation of Rs.2 lakh was released by the fisheries department to the families of the deceased. The MLA handed the cheques to the family members and also made a promise to make efforts inorder to get more compensation form the centre.

Fisheries Department in-charge assistant director Vidyadhar Harikantra, standing committee chairman Purushottam Gowda, Congress leader Shambhu Shetty and others were present for the ceremony.
