Karwar: The recent Trasi accident was a wake-up call to the concerned authorities which led to the implementation of school bus regulations.
In wake of this, the Education Department has issued some guidelines that government-aided and non-aided schools must mandatorily form a protection committee to look after the student's safety and any form of non-compliance to the government regulations can result in the criminal offence and imposition of fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The notification states that the safety committee should consist of school administration, parents of the students, owner of school vans, municipalty officials in the urban region and grama panchayat members in the rural region.
It is observed that the number of school accidents are increasing nowadays. In spite of the guidelines by the authority, some schools do not conform to the rules. Inorder to curb the negligence by the school administration, the Education Department has issued some guidelines and instructed that it should be compulsorily abided by the rules framed.
It is the learnt that the higher officials of the Education Department had raised many issues pertaining children's safety in the meeting in the aftermath of the Trasi accident.
The notification also states that the school management is responsible for the student from when he arrives to school until he reaches home. Apart from this, the school vehicles should install speed governors which control the speed limits upto 40km/hr. The personal details about the drivers should be acquired. The seating arrangements in vehicles should be facilitated and the school bags should not be heaped. It was urged that the parents should check about the condition of the vehicles and stop sending their kids in the vehicles which dont abide by the rules.
