Karwar: In an inter district level cricket tournament, jointly organised by North Kanara Muslim United Forum and Muslim United Club, Team Haldipur clinched championship title, which was held here at city's Maladevi ground in Karwar. The 10 days long tournament concluded it's finals on 9th April, Sunday, which was played between Haldipur and Karwar.
Around 24 teams from Uttar-Kannada district had participated in this tournament. League matches were played as per the schedule. Team Haldipur and Karwar approached till finals after their epic wins in various rounds. In finals, Haldipur registered it's championship title after defeating Karwar by 7 wickets.
The champion team were awarded with cash amount of Rs.1,11,786 along the huge prestigious trophy. While, the runner's up were given cash amount of Rs. 55,000 along with trophy.
Cheif editor of Karavali Munjavu, Gangadar Hiregutti, who was present as a cheif guest in the presentation ceremony, addressed the audience saying that the tournament has become a finest example of setting brotherhood in the society. He expressed his happiness over a set rule of having 7 muslim players and 4 non-muslim players in team, which meant to create brotherhood.
President of North Kanara Muslim United Forum, Imtiyaz Umar Shaikh, speaking on the occasion expressed his views with regard to this wonderful tournament which encouraged youths of Uttar-Kannada district bring closer to each other. He also urged every youngster to come forward in every form of sports activities and made the youths the future of nation.
Gen. Secretary of Muslim forum, Muhammad Mohsin Quazi, speaking on the occasion urged youths to stay united irrespective of caste, race, religion etc. He also thanked the efficient socialist Sadiq Shaikh and his team who efficiently worked for the tournament to bring it to the great heights of discipline.
President of Muslim United Club, Maqbool Ahmed too addressed his presidential speech on the occasion.
Other guests who were present on the dias included, Karwar city muncipal member Ratnakar Naik, Bhatkal TMC Ex President Inayatullah Shabandari, NKMUF vice-president Shaikh Ali Saleha, Mangaluru KMC hospital regional chief operating officer Sageer Siddiqi, Retired headmaster of Unity high school Janab Khaleel Saheb and others were present.
At the presentation ceremony, Anup Majalikar of SES Karwar received 'Man of the tournament' award, Ali of Haldipur received 'Best Baller' award, Nadeem of Karwar achieved 'Best Batsman' award, Domnic of Haldipur was awarded with 'Man of the match' award.
