Karwar: A man has lost Rs 24.52 lakh to fraudsters and a complaint in this connection has been lodged with the District Crime Investigation Department.

Prashant Savant of Sadashivgad in Karwar taluk had availed an insurance policy from Maxlife Insurance company in the year 2011. He paid a yearly premium of Rs 15,150 till the year 2015 and had discontinued it.

Meanwhile, some unidentified persons called him over the phone and claimed that they were the staff members of the insurance company and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The fraudsters assured Savant that they would reactivate the policy and would also ensure extra monetary benefits to him.

They then managed to get money transferred from Prashant’s bank account to their account, police said.
