Karwar: Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada SS Nakul informed that the district administration has opened a control room to address all natural disasters that might be caused due to excess of rain that the district is expected to receive in the next few days.

Briefing media people, here on Wednesday, he said as per the prediction from the meteorological department the district is expected to receive excess of rainfall.

To address any adverse condition the nature may throw up on us, the district administration has started this control room, he said.

The district in the last few days has received copious rain, which has resulted in damage to 35 houses and death of 10 cattle, he said.

The district administration has made all preparations to tackle any form of disaster. Instruction has given at all the district level officials to be on their toes and attend distress call on priority basis, he said. In case of casualty, officials have been asked to visit the spot at the earliest and also provide rehabilitation and compensation for the affected persons, he pointed out. He said he has asked all the district level officials to be at the headquarters and perform their duty. Any officer found of dereliction of duty will be punished under the Natural Disaster Management act of 2005, he added.

The control rooms have been started at deputy commissioner’s office, tahsildar’s offices, and all local bodies’ office and will be functioning round the clock.
