Bengaluru: A decision on reopening primary schools will be taken on Monday in a meeting of experts chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai after they have been closed for nearly 18 months, due to COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The state government had earlier reopened high schools and pre-university colleges on August 23.
On Sunday, Karnataka had recorded 1,262 new coronavirus cases with 17 deaths in the state.
The state had recorded 1.34 per cent fatality rate and 0.70 per cent positivity rate. The total positive cases in Karnataka stood at 29,47, 255 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Earlier, Bommai had said that the government planned to reopen primary schools only in the districts where less than 2 per cent COVID positivity rate has been recorded.
The government is expected to make vaccination mandatory for parents, teachers and non-teaching staff to enter the school premises.
And also ask the schools to sanitise the classrooms regularly, observe social distancing and follow hand hygiene and wear masks compulsorily.
