Haveri: A two-year-old boy was killed and several others were injured after a state-run bus lost control and rammed into passengers waiting on a platform at a bus stand in Karnataka’s Haveri district on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 7 am when the bus, entering the Haveri bus stand, veered off course and climbed onto the passenger platform, hitting people who were waiting to board buses, according to initial reports.

The deceased child, identified as Hazrath Ali (2), sustained critical injuries and was first taken to the district hospital before being shifted to a hospital in Hubballi, where he later succumbed, officials said.

At least three others, including a man, a woman and a child, were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment. The condition of some of the injured is stated to be serious.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle due to rash and negligent driving. Authorities are also examining other possible factors, including mechanical failure.

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the bus mounting the platform and ploughing into the waiting passengers.

A case has been registered against the driver and further investigation is underway, police added.
