Bengaluru: The monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly was curtailed by three days and adjourned "sine die" on Monday, amid the Opposition BJP and JD(S) intensifying their protest in the House demanding the removal of Minister B Nagendra from the Cabinet.

The session began on August 13 and was actually scheduled to conclude on August 27.

The Opposition parties protest inside the House, demanding the sacking of Nagendra, who is facing charges in connection with the alleged embezzlement of crores of rupees at a state-run corporation, entered its sixth day on Monday.

Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka announced that they would stage a day-night protest in the House if the minister is not sacked immediately.

Amid intense protest by the Opposition members holding placards and sloganeering in the well of the House and demanding Nagendra's resignation, Speaker G S Patil conducted proceedings, ensuring the transaction of legislative business with the passage of several Bills.

Several Bills, including the one allowing portions of park and garden land to be used for public infrastructure and utility projects, were passed by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Monday without discussion, amid the Opposition's protest.

The Speaker finally adjourned the House sine die, after ensuring the passage of supplementary estimates and related Bills tabled by Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

The Legislative Council, which also witnessed similar protests by the Opposition demanding Nagendra's resignation, was also adjourned sine die by Chairman Saleem Ahmed.
