Kacheguda–Murdeshwar Express Extended to Kumta Following MP Kageri’s Efforts

Bhatkal: In a significant boost to rail connectivity in Uttara Kannada district, the Kacheguda–Murdeshwar Express (Train Nos. 12789/12790) has been officially extended up to Kumta station, following sustained efforts by Member of Parliament Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri.

The long-pending demand of residents and passengers of the region has been addressed through the initiative, which is expected to bring a notable improvement in the transport network across the coastal belt.

According to an official press release, MP Kageri had personally met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna in New Delhi, where he held detailed discussions highlighting the need for direct rail connectivity between Uttara Kannada and Hyderabad (Kacheguda). The Ministry of Railways has now responded positively to the proposal and issued formal orders approving the extension.

With this development, passengers from Kumta and surrounding areas—including traders and tourists—will benefit from direct connectivity to Hyderabad, which is expected to contribute to the region’s economic growth and tourism development.

Expressing his gratitude, Kageri thanked the Union Railway Ministry and Konkan Railway authorities for their cooperation in facilitating the extension. He also urged the public to make full use of the service, which is expected to commence shortly.

Train Timings:

Train No. 12789 will depart from Kacheguda at 6:05 am, reach Murudeshwar at 1:48 pm, and arrive at Kumta at 2:30 pm.
