Kumta: Owners of private ambulances in Kumta, irked over the torture at district borders while ferrying patients from Uttara Kannada district to the hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, complained to the local officials and submitted a memorandum to the MLA Dinakar Shetty and Assistant Commissioner M Ajith Rai demanding the solution.
They said that they were being sent back from Shirur border in Udupi district. They also complained that even patients suffering serious health problems and needing emergency treatment were denied permission even after the necessary documents were presented. They stated that they shall keep the service to halt if the problems are not solved.
Responding to the memorandum, MLA Dinakar Shetty made a phone call to Udupi DC G Jagadeesh, and explained the obstacles faced by the ambulance drivers. MLA threatened Udupi DC that if the same continues, he himself would stand with 'Laathi' at the check posts. If any casualties report due to inhuman act, a situation of staging massive protest would arise by keeping the mortal remains in front of the DC office. In this regard, Udupi DC said that he would speak with the Police officials and allow the ambulance to ply without any further problems.
Assistant Commissioner M Ajith Rai and others were present on this occasion.
