Honnavar: A 25-year- old woman aspiring to get a job in USA fell prey to a fake e-mail and lost Rs 57.14 lakh.

Netra of Honnavar taluk, who had completed nursing course, was working in Qatar for few years. Later, she returned to her home town and was on look out for a job. Meantime, she received an fake e-mail which mentioned employment opportunities and contact number. The woman called on that number and the fraudsters sent her a question paper on Whatsapp. After she sent the answers, they asked her to pay taxes and fee to get her passport, Visa, medical certificate, NOC, health insurance and other procedures done.

They provided her various bank account numbers and between August 13, 2020 and January 17, 2021, she credited a total of Rs 57.14 lakh to those accounts. With a dream to get a good job, she pooled in all the money she had saved and taken as loans from relatives and banks. She realised the fraud when she did not get an offer letter even after several days. She then lodged a complaint with CEN police who are investigating the case.
