Honnavar: Woman found dead in agriculture field

Honnavar: A 47-year-old woman was found dead in an agriculture field well here on Friday at Bagalamaki near Nilkoda village in Honnavar taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Nirmal Rathnakar Kamat, a resident of the village.

According to police officials, she might have accidentally fell in the well and died. A case has been registered at Honnavar Police Station and investigating.

Karwar: District Court on Friday convicted a man, Sumit D ofHonnavartaluk, of raping a woman. He has been sent to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 has been levied on him.

Judge D R Renake, who heard the arguments of both sides, pronounced the judgment against the convict. The case, which dates back to March 1, 2011 saw Sumit raping a minor girl after luring her of providing powder milk at his farm house. A case regarding this was filed at Honnavar police station.

On April 13, 2011 the police arrested the convict and presented him before the court. The charge sheet was also filed against him. As the convict was a minor then, he was given bail on July 27, 2011.

After five years, now he has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000.

Public Prosecutor Tanuja Hosapatan argued in favor of the victim.
