Honnavar:  An interaction meeting of Sharavathy river water users will be held at 4:00 pm on March 1 at New English School auditorium in Honnavar, to hold discussions over the proposed port construction at Alive region in the town where the Sharavathy river joins the sea. 

The Honnavar Taluk Fishermen Association has organised the meeting. Construction of the port is being opposed by the river water users and local fishermen soon after its announcement.

‘Honnavar Port Private Company’

According to a press release, a Hyderabad-based private company will construct the port under the name ‘Honnavar Port Private Company’ in the town and for this, private land at Kasaragod and Pavinkurva will be acquired.

After the construction, the ownership of the port will be of private entity, which is one of the reasons for the people
to oppose the port construction.

Pros and cons of the construction of the port will be discussed in the meeting and efforts will also be made to discuss the health problems which may arise after the construction of the port.
